Texas Winter Storm Memories | A Perfect Snow Day

Filed in:

When people think of Texas, snow isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind. However, every once in a while, we get a Texas winter storm. These snowstorms are a dream for me, as those rare days create perfect snow days that I now get to enjoy with my little girls, creating lasting memories.

Texas Winter Storm Memories

While you often find me behind the camera taking pictures for other mommies of their sweet families, I also try hard to document the big and small milestones in my own family and day-to-day life. As a mother to two little girls, Evelyn and Matilda (who we call Tilly), I know first hand the importance of documenting your family, as time seems to fly by at lightning speed.

My wonderful husband, Jake, and I will be going on 9 years of marriage come April! Texas Winter Storm Enzo is our first snowstorm in our home that we bought in Bulverde, TX 2 years ago. As the storm rolled in on January 21st, it left a little dusting of snow. However, my little girls were CONVINCED it was Elsa who used her powers and sent us the snowstorm. In my house, I have now realized that Elsa is a bigger deal than SANTA!

Seeing the world through their little eyes brought me so much joy. It was pure magic. This was my youngest, Tilly’s, first time seeing snow, so I knew I had to capture this moment, because who knows when snow will come around again. I am so glad I documented these Texas winter storm memories.

A Perfect Snow Day

Prior to the storm, I had been telling them all weekend “it’s going to snow on Tuesday! It’s going to snow Tuesday!” Being a Texas native, anytime there is snow I can’t help but act like a child again. I couldn’t contain my excitement for the girls to see it, and hopefully remember it! The excitement spread through the house as we all anxiously awaited the snow fall on Tuesday. They had more excitement on their little faces when they woke up than they did on Christmas morning!

When I look back on these pictures I want to remember how excited they were. How we had to put almost three layers of clothing on them, the fact their hands and noses were beat red and possibly numb, and yet, they didn’t want to come inside. Seeing them all bundled up with smiles from ear-to-ear was priceless. I loved watching their faces light up as they played, threw snowballs, and of course built their very first “Frosty the Snowman”, perfecting all his little features. These little moments of them just being themselves and living in the joy of the moment are the memories I absolutely treasure!

Capturing Candid Family Memories

As a photographer and a mom, capturing these significant family moments means everything to me. Whether it’s a rare Texas snow day or a simple day at home, these moments are fleeting, and I never want to forget the big milestones or the small, magical details that make them so special. Documenting my own family reminds me how quickly time passes and how precious these memories are, and that’s why it’s so important for me to do the same for my clients. I want you to have the ability to look back years from now and feel the joy, love, and wonder of this season of life—just like I can with my girls. These photographs aren’t just pictures; they’re little windows into the stories of our lives, and I’m so grateful for the chance to preserve them for you and your family.
