There’s something so special about maternity sessions. I love capturing the joyful glow of expectant moms. One of the most common questions I’m asked is: When is the best time to schedule my maternity photos? I often suggest a sweet spot in between 28-32 weeks. Carly’s whimsical maternity session at the beautiful Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne, TX was right at 30 weeks, which was perfect! She looked flawless and the entire session was magical with soft lighting, dreamy surroundings, and the expectant parents full of love and anticipation for their little one.
The Best Time to Schedule Maternity Photos: 28–32 Weeks
This stage of pregnancy is my favorite for portraits for a variety of reasons! For one, the baby bump is beautifully pronounced and photo ready! I also like this stage because mom usually still feels good and isn’t too swollen or uncomfortable. Once you go past 32 weeks, that usually changes as the baby grows and prepares for delivery! This is important as I want all my moms to be comfortable, and I know that things just get harder those last few weeks, so if I can, I will always try to schedule sessions earlier during 28-32 weeks.
This time frame is also good to stay ahead of any surprises! Sometimes, babies like to keep us on our toes, so scheduling earlier in the third trimester gives us some cushion in case your little one decides to arrive early.
Pro Tip: Book Early and Bundle
If you’re considering both maternity and newborn photos, I highly recommend booking both your maternity and newborn session at the same time, bundling them together. Not only does it simplify your planning and timeline, but it also guarantees your spot on my calendar for both of these special milestones. No need to worry about it later-all I need is the anticipated due date!
Whimsical Maternity Session
I absolutely loved capturing this Carly’s whimsical session. We wandered through the peaceful trails of Cibolo, soaking in golden hour light and capturing the quiet joy of these last moments before baby arrives. I always say maternity sessions are not just about documenting your bump; they’re about freezing time during this exciting season of life. Welcoming your first child is such a monumental moment for couples, and it is such an honor to capture these fleeting moments.
I can’t wait to meet their baby this summer and photograph the next chapter of their journey together!
