There’s nothing quite like the first few hours with your newborn. Everything is brand new and oh so tiny – and don’t even get me started on their squishy cheeks and sweet baby yawns. Fresh 48 sessions are all about preserving those early, tender moments that fade so quickly. What is a Fresh 48 Session + How Do You Schedule One ?

A Fresh 48 session is a documentary-style newborn session that takes place at the hospital within the first 48 hours of your baby’s life. These sessions are typically unposed and more natural to fully capture these first moments together. I want you to remember these early moments as a new family forever.

I keep track of all clients’ due dates, but babies still arrive on their own timeline, so Fresh 48 sessions are often booked and finalized quickly! Once you head to the hospital (or even beforehand when you know something is happening), you should reach out to me to give me a heads-up. Then, after baby arrives, we’ll touch base and schedule a time for me to come. Typically, fresh 48 sessions are scheduled in the morning, within the 24–48 hours after birth. However, the timing depends on when your little one arrives and what works best for your family and recovery.

What If You Have Siblings?

If your sweet new baby has older siblings, we’ll chat about when the best time is for me to come. In some cases, I will encourage siblings to meet baby before I arrive. Big transitions can be a lot for kids, especially toddlers, and being there with my camera might not be the best first introduction. However, you know your children best! If they’re easygoing and adaptable, capturing the moment they meet their new sibling can be incredibly special and create a heartwarming, memorable experience. I will always leave this decision up to the parents, but I always have this conversation before our session together.

What to Expect During a Fresh 48 Session?

These sessions are sweet and simple as I focus on the new and exciting adventure of your new precious baby. Throughout the session, I’ll give gentle prompts when needed, but I mostly focus on capturing things as they unfold naturally rather than posed moments. I’ll focus my attention on the newborn snuggles, dad holding baby’s hand, mom in awe of her newest love, baby stretches and yawns, hospital bracelets, bassinet tags, and all of the other little details that tell your family’s story.

If siblings are involved, I go with the flow. I feed off their energy and adjust as needed, keeping things light and simple. My goal is for your session to feel like a moment of peace in the middle of a whirlwind few days.
