Six months is such a sweet milestone in your baby’s first year. It’s also a moment worth celebrating! At six months old your little one is usually sitting up, giggling, grabbing toes, and making all sorts of precious expressions. That’s why sitter sessions, also called 6-month milestone sessions, are such a beautiful way to pause and document the season. However, many parents assume these sessions are just for baby, but I am here to tell you that sitter sessions are for the whole family!

In my Baby’s First Year Collection, which includes a newborn, sitter, and 1-year milestone, I intentionally design each session to celebrate and include the whole family. In the same way your baby is growing and changing, you are too. Parenthood evolves with every stage. Routines constantly shift through each milestone, your bond continually deepens, and your hearts somehow stretch even wider. It is a journey, and one that should be remembered.

Take sweet Everly’s 6-month session, for example. Not only did we capture her sitting up like a pro and flashing the cutest smiles, but her parents were in so many of the images too. They snuggled her, played with her, and simply existed in the moment with her. It wasn’t all about Everly, however she was certintely the focus, but it was also about the love surrounding her.

Why Sitter Sessions Are for the Whole Family

While Milestone sessions show off your baby’s development, they are also about connection. When you’re in the frame, your child gets to look back someday and see what their parents looked like at that stage. After six months with your newborn, whether it’s your first or third, you’ve grown too! This session celebrates that just as much as baby’s milestone. More than that though, when parents are part of the session, the images take on a whole new depth. They’re not just cute baby photos, but meaningful family memories.
