Springtime in Texas brings many beautiful things such as wildflowers, warmer days, and longer evenings. However, it also brings a bit of unpredictability in the weather department. Spring showers are frequent and sometimes pop up unexpectedly. However, I want you to know that rescheduling your in-home newborn session due to gloomy or stormy weather is 100% okay and sometimes the best option. My job is to deliver the best photos of this moment in time that you will treasure forever, and in order to provide you with a gorgeous final gallery, rescheduling can sometimes be necessary.
You might be wondering why weather would affect an in-home session, and here is why: when it is dark and cloudy out, especially if it is storming, there isn’t much natural light, which is what my photography style depends on.
Why Natural Light Matters for In-Home Newborn Sessions
When I walk into your home for a newborn session, I’m not just looking for a room with a cute setup, I’m searching for the best, softest, most beautiful natural light. That gorgeous light streaming in from the windows is what gives images that dreamy, clean, timeless look you see in my portfolio.
While I can use flash in a pinch, it’s not my preferred method. I also don’t use any artificial lighting from lamps or overhead lights as they can create color casts and shadows that change the look and feel of your photos. My light and airy style thrives on real, natural light. Let the light from the windows pour in and I’ll find the perfect spots where the light works best.
Rescheduling In-Home Sessions Due to Weather
Little Miss Harper’s session is the perfect example. The morning of her scheduled session was dark and dreary with nothing but gray, overcast skies. Thankfully, her mom trusted me when I suggested we reschedule. I am so glad we did, as a few days later we had a much better forecast, which resulted in the most gorgeous, light-filled images of Harper and her family. You can see the sunlight filling the room as this sweet family snuggled together. This in-home session turned out so beautifully, and I’m so grateful her mama trusted me with both the timing and light.
I completely understand that rescheduling can feel inconvenient, especially in those busy, early days of newborn life. However, I promise we will only reschedule if it’s necessary for you to get the beautiful, timeless photos you deserve. Whether we’re working around feeding schedules or Texas thunderstorms, I’m always here to guide you through the process. My top priority is always making sure you love your images and that your session is an enjoyable, stress free experience.
