There’s something undeniably sweet about a sitter session. Babies at this age have so much personality, and I could watch their expressions and the way their eyes light up all day long. Emmett’s sitter session in Bulverde, TX was no exception! We met at this dreamy field that had areas of dainty yellow flowers, creating the perfect setting to capture and celebrate this precious milestone. 6-month sitter sessions are a beautiful way to document the wonder and joy that comes right between babyhood and toddlerhood.

When Is the Best Time for a Sitter Session?

The ideal window for a sitter session is between 6–9 months old, or when your baby can sit up independently without support. At this age, little ones are often full of giggles, wide-eyed curiosity, and so much personality. They start making eye contact, engaging with mom and dad, and interacting with me behind the camera, which makes for some truly heart-melting portraits.

Sweet Emmett is part of my Baby’s First Year Collection, and I’ve loved documenting all the beautiful stages of his first year. His mama made the thoughtful decision to wait until he was sitting confidently on his own before scheduling the session. Because of that, we were really able to capture this sweet milestone of him sitting independently with his adorable, big smile.

Including the Whole Family

While sitter sessions often focus on baby, I always encourage parents to consider making it a family moment too. We did just that for Emmett, and I’m so glad we did, as his final gallery was filled with beautiful solo portraits and memorable family photos. His big sister absolutely adores him and I loved watching their sweet bond. These are the kinds of portraits that grow in meaning year after year, not just baby’s milestones, but family milestones, too.
