There’s nothing sweeter than being welcomed into a family’s home to capture those first days with their new baby. Shannon and Alex invited me into their home to photograph their son, Theodore. Entering their home felt like stepping into such a calm and love-filled space, resulting in this peaceful New Braunfels in-home newborn session.

When I arrived, grandma was there lending a helping hand, which is something I always encourage, as sometimes an extra pair of hands helps tremendously! From holding the baby while you finish getting ready to warming bottles or helping tidy up, an extra set of loving hands helps things flow so smoothly.

Sweet Theodore was wide awake for his entire session! However, he didn’t make a single peep! No fussing, no tears, no extra feeding breaks. He was the definition of a “trick baby.” I told his parents multiple times that his peaceful presence was a reflection of their own calm energy. Babies pick up on the atmosphere around them, and Shannon and Alex’s patience and gentleness clearly set the tone.

While most babies are not this easy going for newborn sessions, sweet Theodore was ready for his close ups! Of course, we had to include Theodore’s fur siblings in the portraits too! Pets are such a special part of the family, and I love weaving them into newborn sessions whenever possible.

Every newborn session is different. Sometimes babies are sleepy, sometimes they’re wide awake, and sometimes they’re a mix of both. That’s the beauty of documenting your story as it naturally unfolds. Theodore’s wide-eyed curiosity and quiet sweetness made his session unforgettable, and I know these moments will be treasured for years to come.
