Capturing Major’s one-year milestone and cake smash session was an absolute dream! This session quickly became a favorite of mine, and it’s easy to see why. The setting was perfection—Major’s family has a stunning light-filled home in Fair Oaks, TX. It’s the kind of space that I love to work in.
Light and Airy One-Year Milestone Session
We started the session in Major’s room, which was filled with natural light and beautiful, light wood furniture. We focused on all the things that Major enjoys. He played and showed off his room, but I think his favorite thing to do is snuggle with his mommy while reading books. He was so content sitting in her lap as she read to him. It was such a precious moment to document.
This is what I adore about these milestone sessions—the authenticity and candid moments that truly reflect your child’s personality at their current stage in life, all captured in the comfort of the home where so many memories are being made. My goal for these sessions is to create timeless images that you, as a parent, will treasure forever. Whether it’s sending your child off to college or watching them walk down the aisle, these photos will bring you back to the simplicity and sweetness of this fleeting time in your lives, allowing you to look back and momentarily relive the moment.
The Cake Smash
We wrapped up the session with a smash—a cake smash, that is! While Major wasn’t the biggest fan of his cake, his curiosity was adorable. Watching him investigate the cake, poke at it, and cautiously taste a little bit was so sweet. Although we didn’t get too wild with the smash part, I LOVED the images from this part of the session.
Every one-year milestone cake smash session I offer includes a simple, naked cake on a stand from my collection. For Major’s session, we used a white crumb-coated cake that perfectly complemented the light and airy aesthetic of the day. Even though Major wasn’t too keen on the cake, it added a lovely touch to the overall look and feel of the session.
