One of the greatest joys of lifestyle newborn photography is the comfort and authenticity it brings by capturing your first days as a family in the most natural setting possible: your own home. Cece’s relaxed lifestyle newborn session was the perfect example of how beautiful and natural an in-home session can be.
Relaxed Lifestyle Newborn Session
When I arrived at the family’s cozy downtown San Antonio home, I was immediately struck by how relaxed everyone was. Her parents were so calm and easygoing, and because of that, Cece was too. There’s truly a ripple effect! When parents feel calm and present, their little ones tend to respond the same way.
I know those early days can feel overwhelming, and there’s often pressure to create the “perfect” environment for in-home photos, like a clean house, sleepy baby, matching outfits. But, the truth is you don’t need any of that!
Please hear me when I say this: you do not need a spotless space, a magazine-ready nursery, or even a baby who sleeps the whole time. All I need is a bit of natural light and for you to feel relaxed in your space. That’s when the real magic happens.
Capturing Nursing Moments
During Cece’s session, she let us know it was time for a little snack. While Mom was feeding her, I asked if I could capture some nursing moments, and I’m so grateful they said yes. My eldest daughter and I never had these moments captured and it might be one of my biggest regrets, as she only nursed for three short months. Our journey was not an easy one and when I saw how natural it looked for Cece’s mom I just had to document this for her.
To me, nursing portraits are some of the most powerful and precious images captured with newborns. Whether feeding for a week or a year, those milestones and moments of closeness are fleeting. It creates a deeper bond filled with love and intimacy. Over the years, many parents have told me they cherish their nursing photos, especially if breastfeeding ended sooner than expected. This is why I love lifestyle newborn sessions so much! They’re about documenting real life, just as it is.
